Authorities Arrest One After A Rollover Crash

Wednesday, November 20, 2019

When you are driving in and around Ventura, you should not have to worry about being injured due to the actions of a negligent driver. However, we know that our roadways can be unpredictable. At The Law Offices of J. Jeffrey Herman, our Ventura County Car Accident Attorney wants to examine a recent crash that seriously injured two people. The case highlights the dangers of impaired driving, something that affects all of us.

What led to this person’s arrest?

A November 4 accident that took place in Ventura has led to the arrest of one driver. Police say that Brianna Munoz, 18, was the driver responsible for a single-vehicle rollover crash on Johnson Driver near the intersection with Swan Street.

Witnesses say that the driver initially walked away from the crash, leaving two people trapped inside the front passenger compartment. However, the Ventura Fire Department said that two people, Munoz, and a 44-year-old man, were extricated from the vehicle and taken to the hospital. The man’s injuries were considered life-threatening.

Police determined that Munoz was the driver and not the passenger who walked away, and she was arrested a few days later at her workplace. She was charged with suspicion of felony driving under the influence of alcohol and causing injury.

The passenger who walked away has not been identified.

DUI accidents can lead to serious injuries

Many people do not think a DUI crash is serious if it only involves the vehicle with the impaired driver. However, this crash shows that this is not the case. The passenger in this single-car crash was seriously hurt. Had there been anyone else on the roadway, they could have been seriously injured as well.

According to the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), there were 1,120 people killed, and more than 26,000 people harmed due to drunk driving crashes during the latest reporting year in the state. Alcohol-impaired drivers cause a high percentage of all fatal accidents in this state. Survivors of a DUI crash, whether they are in another vehicle or the same vehicle as the impaired driver, often suffer from serious injuries. This can include:

  • Broken and dislocated bones
  • Severe lacerations
  • Internal organ damage
  • Internal bleeding
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Whiplash injuries
  • Traumatic brain injuries
  • Concussions
