One Person In Critical Condition After Vehicle Versus Bicycle Crash

Tuesday, October 15, 2019

Pedestrian accidents often result in serious injuries for victims. Those injuries can lead to long-lasting disabilities and major medical expenses. Recently, a two-car crash in Oxnard resulted in one bicyclist being struck. At the Law Offices of J. Jeffrey Herman, our personal injury attorneys are ready to get to work helping if you or a loved one have been injured in a crash. We will not rest until you get the compensation you deserve.

What happened in this case?

On Oct. 9, two vehicles collided on the corner of Bard Road and Saviers Road. One vehicle was a heavy pickup truck that rolled over and struck a bicyclist. The bicyclist suffered from serious injuries and was taken to Ventura County Medical Center in critical condition.

The truck driver was also taken to the hospital, though his condition is unclear at the time of this writing. There is also no information on the driver of the second vehicle.

Police are currently investigating this crash. Bicycle crashes, along with pedestrian incidents, are not uncommon in our area, and they are the most dangerous type of traffic crash. In many cases, a bicyclist or pedestrian has no way of knowing they are in danger until it is too late. While we do not know what specifically caused this crash, we do know many bicycle accidents are caused by the negligence of another driver.

What can happen in a bicycle accident?

According to the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), there were 124 bicyclist fatalities and 11,379 bicyclist injuries across the state during the latest reporting year. Nearly all bicycle accidents result in an injury or fatality for the bicyclist.

Even when a bicyclist is wearing a helmet, they still have very little protection from the force of a vehicle slamming into them. It is not uncommon for our Oxnard bicycle accident lawyers to see the following injuries following a crash:

  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Traumatic brain injuries
  • Bone fractures
  • Loss of or damage to a bodily organ
  • Dismemberment or amputation
  • Significant disfigurement
  • Other injuries that inhibit a person’s daily activities

Victims of these crashes require extensive medical attention and often need long-term care. Victims and their families have often faced tremendous medical bills as well as the prospect of lost income if they cannot work while they recover.
